The Lancashire townland of Layton Hayes lies near the coast, some 3 miles south west of Poulton-le-Fylde. It is overshadowed by the more important seaside town of Blackpool, but once held its own race meeting in the mid-1700s. Results from the two day meeting, held between Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th July 1766, were included in Baily’s Racing Register.  On the opening day the Annual Give and Take race was won by Mr Nutt’s Honest Billy. Whilst records of other meetings in the townland are sparse, clearly other meetings had been staged, given that the race was entitled the 'Annual Give & Take'.
